Inside me are the heartbeats of my spiritual mothers who have passed on. I have their rhymes and their rhythms in my blood. When I was growing up, they showered me with love and kindness. I can still feel their pulse. Whenever I venture to unfamiliar places to do the work God blessed me to do, I reach deep down inside for guidance and most importantly the courage to stand up to controversy. Today, I celebrate my aunts, Sara, Wilma, Myrtle, Geraldine, Lucille, Anna, Emma, Lorraine, Lois, Venita and Sara in spirit for being there for me when my mother could not. Without them all, I would not have survived the crazy roads I traveled to where I am today. In appreciation, I celebrate them every day in every way.
